Important Info

Hey Ladies,

WoW!!! Summer is definitely here and tennis is definitely the hottest thing happening in Jennings!!! Just a few little reminders:

1. PLEASE remember that our Ladies Tennis League have all the courts in Jennings reserved on Monday nights from 6-9 pm. If someone other than a league person is on the court, please ask nicely how long they will be and tell them the Ladies Tennis League through the city has the courts reserved.  Hopefully, they will get off without any problems.  If not, call me.

2. PLEASE remember the Mens Tennis League have the courts reserved on Thursday nights.  They are a flex league and really do not have a set time for that evening.  The best thing is to not reschedule a match on  Thursday nights.

3. Also, the country club asked if you have to reschedule your Monday night match, please play it elsewhere.

4. The city is working on having all the courts resurfaced.  The lights are going to be looked into especially since it is a safety issue.  This is a slower process than we would like but hey at least the ball is rolling.

5.  We have met with Bill Phillips again about having a youth program here in Jennings.  It will be opened to anyone not just kids from Jennings.  We will need volunteers for the festivals and will be letting you know when we get alittle closer to making this happen.

6.  IF  YOU HAVE AN INJURY, RESCHEDULE, OR ANY UNUSUAL CIRCUMSTANCE THAT YOU ARE UNABLE TO PLAY YOUR MATCH ON THE MONDAY NIGHT, PLEASE LET ME KNOW OR I CANNOT HELP YOU IF A FORFEIT IS BEING CONSIDERED!!!

 Thanks,

Brittney

THE CAUSE
THE COLOR PHOR A CURE
Color PHor A Cure was founded by Josh & Lindsey Belt of Jennings, Louisiana. In January of 2013, Joel Belt (Josh & Lindsey’s 2 year old son) was diagnosed with severe primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). After 42 days in 3 different hospitals, Joel was sent home with very intensive medication with the hope to improve his quality of life. Since there is NO CAUSE found for why Joel has PPH, that also means there is NO CURE. He currently has only two options at the moment: medicine for life or a double lung transplant.

Today, Joel is currently being seen by some of the greatest PH doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital. He is currently on a 24/7 IV medication that is being infused directly into his heart as well as taking half a dozen other oral medications. Unfortunately, at this time no PH medication given to children is FDA approved. Barring a miracle, this will be a life long journey for Joel and the Belt family. This is where you can help! Joel needs your help in raising funds to find a cure in his lifetime.

WHAT IS PH?
Pulmonary hypertension (PH), a rare and often misdiagnosed disease. The disease causes high blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries. This makes it harder for the blood to flow through the lungs to pick up oxygen.  This causes potentially lifethreatening consequences such as right heart failure. When diagnosed in time, treatments can be administered that improve quality of life and may prolong it. While research has come incredibly far in the last 15 years or so, with nine approved PH therapies and many more in the pipeline, none of these therapies is approved for use in children.

THE CAUSE
100% of all the proceeds from the race will go to help raise awareness and research funds for PHA’s Dr. Robyn J. Barst Pediatric Research and Mentoring Fund for Pulmonary Hypertension. This is the only pediatric PH research fund in all of the United States. You can learn more about PH at phassociation.org

Coman Tiebreak Procedure

The Coman tiebreak procedure is identical to the regular tiebreak procedure except that the players change ends after the first point and then after every four points, and at the conclusion of the tiebreak.
  • Set Tiebreak: First to win 7 points by 2 points wins “Game “ and “Set.”
  • Third-set Match Tiebreak: First to win 10 points by 2 points, wins match.
  • The player whose turn it is to serve shall serve the first point from the deuce court.
  • After the first point, the players shall change ends and the following two points shall be served by the opponent(s) (in doubles, the player of the opposing team due to serve next) starting from the ad court.
  • After this, each player/team shall serve alternately for two consecutive points (starting from the ad court); changing ends after every four points, until the end of the tiebreak game.
  • Switch sides after points 1,5,9,13,17..…. and at the conclusion.

PRINCIPLE ADVANTAGES

Fairness – By changing ends more frequently, the effects of the elements (sun, wind, etc.) are distributed more evenly between the two opponents as opposed to playing six consecutive points before changing ends.
In doubles, the server will always serve from the same end of the court that he/she did during the set, rather than having to serve from both ends.
